Stargazing

There was an article in today's Missourian about a 130-year-old telescope. I enjoyed the story very much, probably due in part to the fact that astronomy interests me. Technically, I liked the lede. Description always sucks me in. That's why I love poetry. In this article, I thought Andrew Haag did a good job presenting a picture of the telescope. I especially liked the section contrasting the old Clark telescope with the modern Meade. I was disappointed when I found an error in it. "She echoes Peery's fondness of the older optics and prefers to use them to the Clark telescope." That's lovely, except the Clark telescope is the older telescope. With the exception of that mistake, I enjoyed the article. I really liked that it focused on Fayette, even though this is a Columbia paper. I think it's important to learn about the surrounding areas as well.
